Female Hormones 101

Estrogen

When estrogen is out of balance it causes night sweats, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, anxiety, and depression. Many women don’t know that these symptoms are not always caused by a deficiency, rather fluctuating levels of estrogen. Our therapy helps maintain this balance to drastically decrease and in most cases eliminate these symptoms.*

Testosterone

Often considered to be the most important in men, testosterone also plays an important role in a woman’s balance. After the age of thirty, testosterone production decreases gradually and symptoms such as loss of libido, weight gain, mental fogginess, and loss of energy can occur. In women who have had a hysterectomy, testosterone levels drop by one-half almost immediately after the surgery.*

Progesterone

Progesterone deficiency can cause difficulty sleeping, hair loss, water retention, and depression. This hormone is commonly prescribed along with estrogen to protect the uterus.*

Testosterone

Andropause, also known as Male Menopause, is a syndrome in aging men that consists of physical, sexual, and psychological symptoms.  Because of its very gradual onset, men don’t often recognize the symptoms of testosterone deficiency until it affects their sex life, body, and energy levels. ‘ Often, the symptoms are mistaken for other health problems.*

Many men over 40 struggle to lose weight and keep it off, which can also be an indication of a testosterone imbalance.* Testosterone levels begin to decline at a rate of 1% per year after age 30 and it is estimated that 39% of men over age 45 have testosterone levels below normal levels.*

Bioidentical Hormones

  • Since 1939, Bioidentical Hormone Balancing is a well-documented means of treating hormone deficiency and imbalance.*
  • These types of hormones are molecularly identical to the hormones that are produced in the body, and are derived from plant-based sources as opposed to synthetic pharmaceutical hormones.*
  • They are 100% natural and your body will not know the difference between these hormones and the hormones that are produced by your body.*
  • Once the body is brought back into proper balance, many positive things happen for people on a physical, psychological, and sexual level.*
  • Bioidentical Hormone Balancing is also linked to successful weight loss in men and women, and they find it not only much easier to lose weight, but keep it off for the long term.*

Pellet Therapy

ThinWorks offers Bioidentical Hormone Balancing via Pellet Therapy, which is used to drastically reduce or eliminate the symptoms of menopause and perimenopause in women, and low testosterone in men.*

Pellet Therapy is a well documented method of delivering bioidentical hormones through small, compounded pellets about the size of a grain of rice.* The pellets are painlessly inserted during an in office procedure under the skin of the lateral buttocks.* It only takes a few short minutes, with no down time, and you are able to carry on with life’s normal activities immediately after the procedure.*

The pellets last 3-4 month for women and 4-6 months for men, making them a convenient long-term solution for hormone therapy, with steady levels during that time.* This means you can enjoy your life without needing an injection, cream, pill or weekly or daily like most other therapies!*

Testosterone Injections

  • In addition to pellets for testosterone therapy, men also have the option of intramuscular injections, which are administered in the lateral buttocks.
  • Although pellets are a convenient and long-term solution for the delivery of testosterone, some men prefer to come in for an injection, despite more frequent office visits.
  • While both forms of therapy will effectively bring testosterone levels up to the appropriate therapeutic range, injections tend to produce a quicker and more noticeable increase in levels.*
  • However, they do not last as long and need to be repeated every two weeks, with a more noticeable increase in the original low T symptoms if 3 or 4 or more weeks elapse since the last shot.*
  • Despite more frequent office visits, the appointments are very short and can be conveniently scheduled any time during our hours of operation.
  • Neither method of administering testosterone is “better” than the other it is merely a matter of preference.*
  • For more information, talk to one of our coaches to better understand the pros and cons of each, and to decide which is best for you.
