Neurotoxins vs. Fillers

Not all skin treatment products are the same, and the two most commonly used types are neurotoxins and fillers.  The two differ in many ways and offer different benefits. To get the most out of your consultation with our nurse practitioner, it is good to get an understanding of their difference and what each type of treatment is meant to achieve.

  • Neurotoxins – Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin
    • Block signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can no longer contract, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften. It is most often used on forehead lines, crow’s feet (lines around the eye) and frown lines. Wrinkles caused by sun damage and gravity will not respond to Botox.
  • Fillers – Juvederm, Voluma, Radiesse, Belotero, Restylane, Restylane Lyft
    • Young, healthy skin contains an abundance of a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). Using a dermal filler is a safe and effective way to replace the HA your skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.
    • Fills in lines and hollow areas plumping the skin to its original state
    • Brings water back to the surface of the skin
