Stay on Track with Your Weight Loss Even When It's Cold and Rainy!

The air is cooler and the days are getting shorter. Fall is here and that can only mean one thing the colder months are on the way. During the spring and summer, it can be easy to live an active and healthy lifestyle, but when the weather becomes colder and it rains more, this can be more difficult. Tack on the fact that the holidays will be soon upon us with all of those social eating opportunities! Attaining your weight loss goals can suddenly feel like a battle. The good news is that if you start setting yourself up for success now; you will succeed. You just need to be a little diligent and creative to keep the pounds off!

Seasonal Eating

This is the time of year to take advantage of all the fresh fruits and vegetables at your local farmer's market or nearby farm. You'll find super fresh and healthy ingredients for cooking delicious low-calorie, low fat and low-carb meals. Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and packed with nutrients - a winning combination for weight loss through the winter. Try to select fruits and veggies that are low in carbs, as they vary.

Buy Warmer Workout Clothes

It can be fun to exercise outside even when the air gets colder. You just need the right clothes. Dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes and take your workout outdoors whenever you can. You can walk, hike, run, and take up an outdoor sport such as volleyball, soccer, tennis, or long-distance biking.

Gym Membership

When it gets colder and darker earlier, it's the perfect time to purchase a gym membership if you don't already have one. Develop the habit to work out several times a week while the weather is still nice so that you can still make it there when it's colder. You can use the cardiovascular training machines, lift weights, work with a trainer, take classes, and more.

Shine a Light

One of the main problems that people during the rainy season and colder months is a reduction of sunlight. This can cause depression, weight gain, and even mood swings. Getting enough sunlight, however, is a mood booster and can help prevent weight gain in the winter. Try to get sunlight whenever the sun comes out. If not, consider buying one of those full-spectrum lights to sit by. The basic formula for losing weight is to consume fewer calories than you burn. This does not change, no matter what season it is. We hope these tips will help you lose weight despite the change in the seasons! Just remember to eat as healthy as possible so that you can get off to a good start.
